The High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) is a highly mobile all-wheel drive multipurpose wheeled vehicle. It largely replaced the roles previously performed by the original jeep and others, such as the M151 Vietnam War era. It is used primarily by the United States military, in many other countries, organizations, and even in civilian adaptations. The Humvee was widely used in the Gulf War in 1991, sailing through treacherous desert terrain. This use helped inspire civilian versions of the Hummer. After undergoing an exchange process, a Joint Light Tactical Vehicle was selected as its successor.
