The development of the P-51 took place very quickly and was basically built around the Packard V12 engine, a well-known and reliable Rolls-Royce Merlin engine manufactured under license in the United States. He provided him with over 1600 horsepower. Thanks to him, the Mustang was able to reach a speed of 700 km / h. The P-51D, the most famous and successful variant, was armed with six 0.5 M2 Browning machine guns built into the wings. This machine was used for operations on all battlefields, but it fulfilled its best-known tasks as an escort for bombers during raids on Europe.
