The Vought SB2U Vindicator (Avenger) was an American all-metal single-engine two-seat low-wing aircraft from World War II.
57 machines of the SB2U-3 variant were intended for the US Marine Corps Air Force. The prototype version -3 was created by redesigning the last serial SB2U-1, which was flown in February 1939. The R1535-02 engine was chosen as the power unit, and the tanks in the fuselage were equipped with protective covers. The armament consisted of one fixed and one movable 12.7 mm machine gun. Deliveries of the aircraft began in February 1941 and received the combat name Vindicator. After the Battle of Midway in the spring of 1942, they were transferred to training.
